What is the Right to Information Act?
The Right to Information Act, 2005 empowers every citizen of India to seek information from public authorities, promoting transparency and accountability in government functioning. Nagar Palika Deshnoke, as a public authority, is bound to provide information sought by citizens within the statutory timeline, subject to the exemptions provided in the Act.
How to file an RTI application
Citizens may file an RTI application in the following ways:
- In writing (in English, Hindi or the official language of the area) addressed to the Public Information Officer (PIO) of Nagar Palika Deshnoke.
- In person at the municipal office during office hours, or by post.
- The application must clearly state the information sought and contact details of the applicant.
Application Fee
An application fee of ₹10 is payable, along with additional charges for photocopies (₹2 per page) and inspection of records, as prescribed under the Rajasthan Right to Information Rules. Applicants below the poverty line are exempted from fees on production of a valid BPL certificate.
Response Timeline
The PIO is required to respond within 30 days of receipt of the application. Where the information concerns the life or liberty of a person, it must be provided within 48 hours. If dissatisfied with the response, applicants may file a first appeal within 30 days.
First Appellate Authority
If an applicant does not receive a response within the prescribed time, or is not satisfied with the information provided, an appeal may be filed with the First Appellate Authority of Nagar Palika Deshnoke within 30 days of the decision (or the expiry of the response period).
